London, Baby

As promised, blogging will be sporadic. When the time came to decide whether to post from London, Debbie felt that 5 pounds was too much to pay for one hour and I wasn't about to go out to find an internet cafe at that point.

Anyway, we arrived in London without much incident, aside from some pretty unpleasant turbulence somewhere over the arctic. We stayed at an extremely posh Premier Travel Inn in King's Cross.

London is a pretty hard city to see when you only have one day, so we didn't try too hard. We started out at Buckingham Palace.

Sadly,

Then we walked through St. James Park.

That's the London Eye in the background. From there, we walked past the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. We couldn't get in to the Abbey because it was a Sunday. Here's a picture of Debbie with Big Ben in the background.

And, Parliament.

We walked up Whitehall (center of British government) and saw a memorial service for British soldiers. We also saw people like this guy.

We walked through Trafalgar Square, which had some construction and stuff going on, and tried to get half price theatre tickets in Leister Square (unsuccessful because there aren't many shows on Sunday).

After lunch, we went shopping on Oxford Street. I won't bore you with the details, except to say that I have a feeling that the clothes in Topshop are not exactly my style. Anyway, I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what Italy has to offer in that department.

By the way, despite walking past King's Cross Station a number of times, we never actually went in to look for platform 9 3/4. Partially, it's because I've taken the train from there before and I remember it as being pretty dull. But mostly just lack of follow-through.
